Welcome to CanJam News. These Terms of Use govern access to and use of the CanJam News website, articles, photographs, videos, comments, forms, event listings and other services.

By accessing or using the website, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, you should discontinue use of the website.

1.About CanJam News

CanJam News is an independent news and information website publishing content relating to Canada, Jamaica and other national and international topics.

Content may include breaking news, local news, Canadian and Jamaican news, international news, sports, events, commentary, investigative reporting, community submissions, and satire and comedy.

2.News and Editorial Content

CanJam News makes reasonable efforts to publish information believed to be accurate at the time of publication. News situations can change quickly. Articles may therefore be updated, corrected, clarified, expanded, edited or removed.

The date or time of an article may be updated when significant new information becomes available.

3.No Guarantee of Completeness

While CanJam News aims to provide accurate reporting, it does not guarantee that every article is complete, error-free or current at all times. Information may originate from police, government agencies, emergency services, courts, businesses, witnesses, public submissions, official statements, news releases, public records or other credible sources.

Users should verify important information independently where necessary.

4.Allegations and Criminal Proceedings

When CanJam News reports criminal charges, investigations or allegations, those allegations should not be interpreted as proof of guilt. A person charged with an offence is presumed innocent unless proven guilty according to law. CanJam News may update articles as court proceedings develop.

5.Corrections

CanJam News aims to correct significant factual errors when they are identified. Requests for corrections may be sent to [email protected]. Please include the article title, the information believed to be incorrect, and supporting information where available.

Submitting a correction request does not guarantee that an article will be changed or removed.

6.Satire and Comedy

CanJam News may publish satire, parody or comedy content. Such articles are intended for entertainment and should not be interpreted as factual reporting.

Where appropriate, satire or comedy content will be identified through wording such as Satire, Comedy, Parody, or similar labelling.

Fictional headlines, edited images or imaginary quotes used in satire should not be interpreted as actual events or statements.

7.Opinions and Commentary

Opinion or commentary pieces represent the views expressed in that particular article and do not necessarily represent the views of every person associated with CanJam News. Readers are encouraged to distinguish news reporting from commentary, satire and opinion content.

8.User-Submitted Content

Users may be permitted to submit news tips, photographs, videos, events, comments, story ideas, documents, messages and other material. By submitting material, you confirm that you have the legal right to submit it, the material is not knowingly false, it does not unlawfully infringe another person's rights, and it is not submitted for fraudulent or malicious purposes.

Submitting material does not guarantee publication.

9.Permission to Use Submitted Material

Unless otherwise agreed, by voluntarily submitting photographs, videos, documents or other content to CanJam News, you grant CanJam News a non-exclusive permission to review, edit, crop, reproduce, publish, display, distribute and use it in related news coverage or to promote the relevant CanJam News story or service.

Ownership of the original material remains with the lawful owner unless another agreement is made.

10.Prohibited Use

Users may not use the CanJam News website to commit unlawful acts, harass or threaten others, impersonate another person, spread malware, attempt unauthorized access, interfere with website operation, scrape or copy large amounts of content without permission, submit intentionally false emergency information, publish private information unlawfully, engage in fraud, violate intellectual-property rights, manipulate contests or polls, send spam, or abuse forms or communication systems.

CanJam News may restrict access to users who misuse the website.

11.Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, original CanJam News articles, graphics, logos, page designs and other original material are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Content may not be republished in full for commercial purposes without permission. Limited quotation, linking and sharing may be permitted where allowed by law.

The CanJam News name and logo may not be used in a way that falsely suggests endorsement, partnership or authorization.

12.Third-Party Images and Material

Some articles may include photographs, videos, screenshots, embeds, quotations or other content owned by third parties. Such material remains the property of the respective rights holder. CanJam News does not claim ownership of third-party intellectual property merely because it appears on the website.

13.External Websites

CanJam News may link to external websites for information or convenience. CanJam News does not control external websites and is not responsible for their content, availability, privacy practices, security, products or services. A link does not necessarily indicate endorsement.

14.Social Media

CanJam News may share content through social-media platforms. Comments made by members of the public on social-media services do not necessarily represent the views of CanJam News. CanJam News may moderate or remove comments where platform rules permit.

15.Events

Event information may be submitted by members of the public or event organizers. CanJam News does not guarantee that an event will occur as scheduled, that ticket prices are accurate, that locations have not changed, that an event has not been cancelled, or that an event organizer has provided complete information.

Users should confirm event details with the organizer before attending.

16.Contests and Giveaways

CanJam News may operate contests or giveaways. Each contest may have its own rules covering eligibility, entry deadlines, geographic restrictions, entry limits, prize details and winner-selection procedures. Where contest-specific rules conflict with these general Terms, the contest-specific rules will apply to that contest.

CanJam News may disqualify fraudulent or duplicate entries.

17.Advertising and Sponsored Content

CanJam News may display advertising, sponsorships or promotional content. Where required or appropriate, sponsored or paid content should be identified. Advertising does not necessarily mean CanJam News endorses a product or service. CanJam News is not responsible for transactions between users and third-party advertisers.

18.No Professional Advice

Content published by CanJam News is provided for news, information and entertainment purposes. It should not automatically be treated as legal, financial, medical, investment or professional advice. Users should consult an appropriate qualified professional where necessary.

19.Website Availability

CanJam News does not guarantee uninterrupted access to the website. The site may temporarily become unavailable due to maintenance, technical problems, hosting issues, security concerns, internet outages or third-party service failures. CanJam News may modify or discontinue website features at any time.

20.Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, CanJam News is not responsible for losses or damages resulting from reliance on website information, temporary website outages, third-party websites, user-submitted information, technical failures, malware originating outside CanJam News' reasonable control, or decisions made based solely on website content.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.

21.Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, users who misuse the website or knowingly submit unlawful content may be responsible for resulting claims, losses or costs arising from that misuse.

22.Removal of Content

CanJam News reserves the right to edit, restrict or remove content where reasonably necessary, including material that is inaccurate, unlawful, violates privacy or copyright, creates a security risk, is abusive, is spam, or violates these Terms.

23.Changes to These Terms

CanJam News may update these Terms of Use at any time. The most recent version will appear on the website with the latest revision date. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

24.Governing Law

These Terms are intended to operate subject to applicable laws of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick, without limiting any rights or obligations that may apply under federal law or other applicable jurisdictions.
